Create Your Dream Ice Cream Flavor – Kemps Locally Crafted Sweepstakes!

cbias disclosure#KempsLocallyCrafted #cbias

I think that most all of us who grew up here in Minnesota also grew up with Kemps Ice Cream! I remember always having at least two cartons in our freezer. One of vanilla for topping pies and making shakes (my dad made the BEST shakes with fresh raspberries) and another carton of a fun flavor – toasted almond fudge and mint chocolate chip were always favorites. While those flavors are still delicious, there are lots of newer flavors that we never even would have dreamed of as kids – flavors like Moose Tracks, Pearson’s Salted Nut Roll and Caribou Coffee Java Chunk.

In our family today, we have a big gender divide when it comes to ice cream flavors. The boys are what us girls like to call “boring” and only like to eat plain vanilla. We girls however, like to have “stuff” in our ice cream and the more imaginative the flavor the better! We had a fun family day on Saturday and to prep the snacks I headed to Target for ice cream. I got Old Fashioned Homemade Vanilla for the boys and Double Fudge Moose Tracks for the girls – so good!

If you could create any Kemps Ice Cream flavor imaginable, what would it be? I can think of lots of individual ingredients I would love in my ice cream, but finding the correct combination is the tricky part! Candy pieces, cookie chunks and nuts are usually my favorites and I really love a sweet and salty combination.

Kemps is always on the lookout for new flavors and now they are asking YOU to create your own new Kemps ice cream flavor in the Kemps Locally Crafted Sweepstakes! By submitting your flavor idea you have a chance to win a year’s supply of Kemps ice cream! They are even ready to help you create your flavor by letting you know all of the base flavors you can start with and then all the swirls, and mix-in toppings that you can include.

My idea for a delicious flavor is Salty Snack Bowl. It would start with a salted caramel base with a peanut butter swirl and then have chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered peanuts mixed in. YUM! Use the widget below to enter your own flavor idea. Kemps will select the best flavors from this Sweepstakes and produce for purchase later this year. Plus, once you submit your flavor idea you can download a $.50 off coupon for Kemps ice cream products!

For more info, follow Kemps on Facebook and Twitter.

Disneynature Born in China Free Advance Screening Tuesday AMC Rosedale

We are big fans of the Disneynature movies and their latest film, Born in China, is coming to theaters just in time for Earth Day. BUT, you have a chance to see it early with a special advance screening Tuesday, April 18th at 7PM at AMC Rosedale. Download a pass to admit 4 people HERE. Please be aware that seating is given on a first come, first serve basis, so make sure to arrive early!

About the movie:

Narrated by John Krasinski (“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” NBC’s “The Office,” “Amazon’s “Jack Ryan”), Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure film “Born In China” takes an epic journey into the wilds of China where few people have ever ventured. Following the stories of three animal families, the film transports audiences to some of the most extreme environments on Earth to witness some of the most intimate moments ever captured in a nature film. A doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence. A two-year-old golden monkey who feels displaced by his new baby sister joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts. And a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet. Featuring stunning, never-before-seen imagery, the film navigates China’s vast terrain—from the frigid mountains to the heart of the bamboo forest—on the wings of red-crowned cranes, seamlessly tying the extraordinary tales together. Opening in U.S. theaters on Earth Day 2017, “Born in China” is directed by accomplished Chinese filmmaker Lu Chuan, and produced by Disney’s Roy Conli and renowned nature filmmakers Brian Leith and Phil Chapman.

5 Ways to Save Money on Gas + HyVee Gift Card Offer + #HYVsave10 Reader Giveaway

Disclosure Compensation5 Ways to Save Money on Gas

When we’re looking at a monthly budget, one item that can always make a big dent is gas for our cars! Living without a car can be difficult for most of us, so the only option is to keep that expenditure in control. You can get a good start with these ideas for 5 ways to save money on gas:

5 Ways to Save Money on Gas

  1. Drive Less – Yes, most of us need our cars, but do we really need to make as many trips? Try to combine errands into one big trip or do them on the way home from work or school. Carpooling is a way to drive a lot less!
  2. Watch Your Brakes – Excessively braking not only causes your brake pads to wear out quickly, but it also wastes gas! Stop with plenty of time and you’ll improve your car’s efficiency
  3. Check Your Tire Pressure – If your tires are under-inflated, they will wear out faster AND waste gas. Proper inflation reduces tire friction and gives you better gas mileage.
  4. Don’t Leave the Engine Running – If you’re waiting to pick someone up or eating that food you just picked up at the drive through, turn off your engine and save gas.
  5. Look for Discounts on Gas Purchases – You can pay a lot less for gallon if you get a discount on every gallon you purchase. Use a loyalty program like the one at Hy-Vee and save even more with the current offer running right now! Check out the details below!

If you visit your local Hy-Vee store now through April 18, 2017, you can score a great gas deal and earn 10 cents off per gallon with every $25 purchase of select gift cards or earn 20 cents off per gallon with every $50 purchase of select gift cards. Here’s how it works:

  • Find a Hy-Vee Store near you
  • Purchase select gift cards and save 10¢ cents on gas for every $25 purchased in gift cards or 20¢ cents every $50purchased
  • Participating Gift Cards include: Nike, Xbox, AMC Theaters, Fandango, American Express, Game Stop, Ruby Tuesday, Lane Bryant, Chili’s, Applebees, Michaels, iTunes, Petsmart, Groupon, Carnival
  • Take advantage of this offer before it ends on 4/18/2017.

You can make this offer an even better deal by using your favorite rewards credit or debit card to purchase. That way you can earn points, miles or a percentage back on your purchase on top of the great gas savings offer. Depending on the type of gift cards you choose, you can even use them to buy gasoline, making your savings come full circle!

DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby. He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby. The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim. With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.

2017 Minnesota City Wide Garage Sales List

I have had SO MANY emails and Facebook messages for the last few weeks asking about our annual list of Minnesota City-Wide Garage Sales that I figured it was time that I better get it started. This year marks the SEVENTH annual listing of city-wide, town-wide and neighborhood sales throughout the state of Minnesota! We greatly appreciate all of the people and organizations who come forward to provide us with information each year to help us put together this list.  It is a huge project that takes many hours of work! I’m happy to see so many people using the list and am honored by all your kind comments about it.

All of the sales below are those that I have been able to confirm the dates either via the city hosting the event, a local resident or a reader with information about the sale. NOTE: This is a work in progress. If you know of any confirmed sale dates that I have not yet listed, please let me know by leaving a comment here or e-mail me and I will get it added to the list.

Please help support this list by “liking” us on Facebook, subscribing to Thrifty Minnesota email updates, checking out our advertisers or telling your friends about Thrifty Minnesota.  Any help is appreciated!
