To show gratitude for people like you, who help make sure patients and family caregivers don’t go through health journeys alone, the nonprofit CaringBridge team, based in Eagan, invites you to celebrate the spirit of generosity at a free, virtual Giving Tuesday gathering at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30.
Read on for more details, including how to RSVP to the 30-minute online program.
Life is busy, and happy, for Kate and Rob Erickson and their four children, including identical twins Reese and Remi, whose complex separation surgery in 2020 involved 20 surgeons at Children’s Minnesota.
A highlight of the program is a short film documenting a morning with the Erickson Family of Elk River. Kate and Rob, the parents of four kids under 10, have been CaringBridge users since the birth in 2019 of their identical—and conjoined—twin daughters.
Reese and Remi, who are absolutely adorable, were born at Children’s Minnesota, connected through their chest wall, abdomen and pelvis. They shared a liver, and also an umbilical cord.
At birth, Reese, left, and Remi were connected through their chest wall, abdomen and the top part of their pelvis. They also shared a liver and an umbilical cord. Conjoined twins occur once in about every 200,000 live births in the United States.
In April 2020, during a seven-hour procedure involving 20 surgeons, the girls emerged separate, but whole. Reese went home a month later, but Reese faced complications including a stroke, and damage to her brain.
The girls’ mom, Kate, wrote in their CaringBridge Journal: “From the beginning of this journey, it has been my mission to share our story to give back and help as many people as we can. The support and love we have gotten has been indescribable, and I want to be that for others going through something similar.”
Identical twins have identical DNA, and the Erickson sisters also share the bond of Remi’s stronger heart and lungs having provided extra support to Reese before their birth in 2019.
In that spirit, you are warmly invited to share in the hope and healing of the Erickson Family’s story, and to learn more about Minnesota-based CaringBridge, which will mark its 25th year in 2022.
