If you’ve ever driven on University Avenue north of 694 anytime from 1968 – 2015, you no doubt passed Columbia Arena in Fridley. And if you’ve seen D3: The Mighty Ducks, you’ve seen the interior of the arena as the movie was filmed almost entirely at Columbia Arena.
Columbia Arena has since been torn down, and the site on which it was located is now Fridley City Hall. But the old arena hasn’t been forgotten – Fridley is remembering it with a special event this Friday, February 28th from 5:30 – 8 pm.
This FREE, family-friendly event is open to all with a bunch of fun activities:
- Unveiling of a brand new, 20+ foot sculpture in the Civic Campus lobby, featuring old signage from Columbia Arena
- Live music
- Hockey shoot out
- NHL video games
- Pizza and popcorn
- Resident resources
- Boot hockey games
- Arts and crafts from Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts
- Screening of D3: The Mighty Ducks (features Columbia Arena)
- Commemorative photos and memorabilia on display from Fridley Historical Society
