Learn more about dragonflies and participate in fun science activities at Eastman Nature Center’s Dragonfly Festival.
Would you or someone you know like to learn more about insects, specifically dragonflies? I’ve always enjoyed watching dragonflies silently move around in the air and land here and there.
If so, check out the Dragonfly Festival at Eastman Nature Center on Saturday, July 15 from 10 am – 2 pm. Drop-in anytime that works for your schedule.
This free event gives participants a chance to learn a bit more about these beautiful insects in various ways. Celebrate dragonflies and their life cycles. Visit the dragonfly tent, catch adults and nymphs, test water quality at the pond using invertebrates, and learn how your actions affect their health.
Looking close up at dragonflies, you will find them full of detail. Come to the event and take a photo with a giant dragonfly on a green screen, explore microscopes, and visit dragonfly nymphs. There will also be an opportunity to talk to the Minnesota Dragonfly Society about what they do around the state.

Eastman Nature Center is nestled in the sugar maple floodplain forest of Rush Creek in Dayton, Minnesota. It’s a great place to begin an outdoor journey. Walk across the floating boardwalk, explore the miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails for a bit of exercise or visit the newly reconstructed nature center.
Hop on the bike trails of Elm Creek Park Reserve or sit quietly and watch the creek flow by. Visitors may see trumpeter swans, wild turkey, bluebirds, dragonflies and abundant native wildflowers.
