Known for its exhibitions on local history and culture, Hennepin History Museum isn’t afraid to look at the full range of local historical experiences. Past exhibitions have covered everything from burlesque shows to vintage aprons, 1980s music to 1880s theaters, as well as high wheel bicycles, 150 years of people and their pets, and the Buzza greeting card empire, once based out of the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis.
The museum, located inside the historic Christian mansion, is home to three rotating gallery spaces as well as an iconic and intimate fireplace room overlooking the rolling hills of the historic Washburn-Fair Oaks Park. In the fireplace room, visitors gather together to raise a glass in toast to history, including the curiosities, innovations, and inspirations found throughout the records of Minneapolis and Hennepin County history.
Hennepin History Museum’s exhibitions are open to the public six days each week, while the library and reading room are open for five. Frequent public programming is also available; topics and activities vary by day and time.
