The 13th annual Kids to Parks Day is happening Saturday, May 13th at various parks throughout the nation.
An annual event, celebrated on the third Saturday of May, focuses on the importance of experiencing enjoyment through outdoor play.
Discover and explore the great outdoors through park events. National Kids to Parks Day, which is organized by National Park Trust, is designed to connect kids and their families to memorable experiences found in parks.
This mission is developed through experiences, learn about park stewardship, outdoor recreation, STEM, and the history of our country and its amazing national treasures.
In Minnesota, Kids to Parks Day events are currently planned for Burnsville and Waite Park (Saint Cloud Area).
Kids to Parks Day in Burnsville (Red Oak Park)
Kids and families are invited to Red Oak Park for some morning fun. The event at this location is scheduled from 9:10 am – 1:30 pm.
Families and kids are invited to check out the park’s inclusive playground. The inclusive playground features a large accessible play structure, an inclusive seat spinner, and musical instruments.
Kids and families can also check out the park’s new “Bankshot Court.” Bankshot is a game of skill and challenge that consists of multiple backboards of all different heights, design, angles, and color. The sport is intended for all ages and abilities. All Bankshot equipment will be provided.
There will be refreshments, snacks, and music available at the park. Red Oak Park is located at 12100 River Hills Drive.
Kids to Parks Day at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve (Waite Park)
The Stearns County Parks Department is offering free access to Quarry Park on Saturday, May 20th. There are additional lessons on taking care of parks and using them responsibly for recreation.
Additional topics covered include science and engineering principles and information about the history of the parks systems, including national treasures like Yellowstone or Yosemite.
Kids to Parks Day at this location runs from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Enjoy the trails at Quarry Park & Nature Preserve. The Park will have a few volunteer events including Aspen Girdling with Great River Greening and Prairie Restoration Seeding with Great River Greening.
Kids (and adults) can try their skills at fishing and disc golf. You can also learn about aquatic macro-invertebrates with the St. Cloud Soil and Water Conservation District. Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center will be bringing their rock climbing wall for everyone to try.
Quarry Park & Nature Preserve is located at 1802 County Road 137 Waite Park, Minnesota.
