STORY at Macy’s Ridgedale Activities

Over the past couple of years, we’ve heard about a lot of closings of Macy’s stores, but the Macy’s store at Ridgedale Center in Minnetonka is still open! It’s one of over 35 Macy’s locations across the country that are participating in the new STORY concept.

About STORY at Macy’s:

STORY is a new store to explore – an ever-changing retail concept that brings a new theme to life every 6-8 weeks through fresh and fun products from hundreds of small businesses and dynamic event programming. They got their start in Chelsea NYC where they debuted the idea of a store that acted like a magazine. Their friends at Macy’s invited them to move uptown and across the country to over 35 locations. STORY at Macy’s is changing things up and inviting you to discover something new every few months. Stay tuned for what’s in-store – there will be oh-so much to explore!

Right now the upcoming STORY at Macy’s events are all about color and include:

  • V-eye-P: Festival Beauty with MAC Cosmetics – Friday, April 19th from 3 – 7 pm
  • Picking Patch: Jean Jacket Customization with Crayola X Levis – Saturday, April 27th from 11 am – 5 pm

Macy’s Santaland

With news of the downtown Minneapolis Macy’s store closing in 2017, it means there’s just a couple opportunities to take in the Macy’s Santaland.  The 8th floor exhibit is free and great for families.  We have done for many years and always try to time it so we can have a meal in the very bottom level of the store.  The wraps and smoothies are sooo delicious.  Of course then we also stop by for some chocolate at the candy/chocolate area in the same lower level.  Great traditions, so we are sad to hear that it will all be ending.  You have until Saturday afternoon to take it all in.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Everybody’s favorite holiday tradition is back! Drop by our Magical Elf Village and tell jolly Old Saint Nick what’s on your wish list, then have your picture taken with him and have a memory that will last forever! Remember, he’s only here for a limited time, so catch him while you can!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Have your picture taken with the man himself! Before you go, make a stop at Mrs. Claus’ Bakery and Santa’s Toy Shop! Photo packages are available.

Macy’s Santa Land: A Day in the Life of an Elf

Macy's Santa Land

As a kid and now as a Mom, one of my favorite memories has been heading downtown Minneapolis for the Macy’s Santa Land.  Going up the escalator until you reach the magic level, or so I thought when I was younger.  Actually it is the 8th floor, but it really seemed like the magic floor when I was younger. Passing through several departments and then waiting in line.  The smell of fresh gingerbread greeting us as we made our way to the scene.  “A Day in the Life of an Elf,” is great for all ages, plus there is no admission to walk through it. Check out the schedule here.

See the Splendor of Asia at the 2013 Flower Show Macy’s Downtown Minneapolis – The Painted Garden

This winter seems like it is stretching on FOREVER!  Starting tomorrow, you can gain a little reprieve at the annual Macy’s Flower Show. This year’s theme, The Painted Garden: Gardens by Bachman’s, is an explosion of color celebrating Asian design, culture and beauty.

The focal piece of the show is an amazing 10 foot Elephant, which is covered with a floral blanket made of all natural elements including strawflowers, buttonflowers, coffee, lavender and more. The elephant is topped with a royal howdah (carriage) teeming with more colorful plants and flowers

Here are some fun facts about the show:

  • Approximately 24 truckloads of plants, flowers and soil comprise the Flower Show which total nearly 120 varieties and several thousand plants.
  • Construction begins in January and requires 3,000 hours of labor to complete with the support of more than 40 locally based electricians, florists, landscapers, artists, carpenters and visual specialists.
  • It takes 9 days to plant the full Flower Show display and 4 days to uninstall it.
  • More than 180 cubic yards of soil is moved into the Auditorium to create 4,000 square feet of landscape.
  • Each year, more than 65,000 people come to view the Flower Show during its 2 week run.
  • The average temperature inside the Auditorium during Flower Show is 65 degrees.
  • The soundtrack for the show is custom-made locally in the Twin Cities and is used at all 5 flower shows across the United States .

The show runs from Sunday, March 24 through Sunday, April 7, 2013, in the 8th Floor Auditorium of Macy’s Downtown Minneapolis store during store hours.  There is a wide range of other in-store events planned including cooking demos, art demonstrations, and more.  Find more information and the complete event schedule here.
