Hooked on Books is a free community event at Chanhassen High School to celebrate reading with fun activities, games, crafts, performances and more.

Have you ever heard of Hooked on Books? Since 2008, the Eastern Carver County Schools have hosted a community-wide celebration of literacy and the arts. It started small and has turned into a HUGE event!
On Saturday, February 21st from 9am- 12pm, Hooked on Books will take over Chanhassen High School with a variety of free, educational and fun events. Highlights of the Hooked on Books event include: book readings, crafts, games with book prizes, music, dance and theater demonstrations, an obstacle course and more.
There are so many different events that its’ a good idea to look at the full list of activities here and choose your favorites to do first to make sure you have time for those that interest you the most. The event is geared toward children from preschool through fifth grade.
This year’s featured author is Cristina Oxtra. Cristina is an award-winning children’s writer with an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults and a BA in Journalism. She writes picture books, chapter books, middle grade, and graphic novels. Her picture book What Lolo Wants is a 2025 Minnesota Book Awards Finalist and Society of Midland Authors Award Honoree.
