Head to Luverne, Minnesota to see the World’s Largest Nutcracker and visit their massive collection of over 7,000 Nutcrackers at the Rock County History Center!
Did you know the World’s Largest Nutcracker is located in Minnesota? Verne, the Patriot Nutcracker, is located in Luverne, Minnesota. It’s about 30 minutes east of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is the biggest Nutcracker in the World at 66 feet tall. I absolutely love nutcrackers and I was so excited when we got to make a special stop on our roadtrip to visit Verne!
Verne was unveiled in July 2026 and he is way bigger than the previous record holder in Neuhausen, Germany (which stands at 33 feet)! You can visit Verne anytime as he’s located outside at 924 S Kniss Ave right off of Interstate 90.
While you’re in Luverne, don’t miss your chance to see their huge Nutcracker Collection! Resident Betty Mann started a collection in 2001, and it’s now almost 8,000 nutcrackers (which is about 2,500 more nutcrackers than they have residents!) It’s free to visit and located inside the Rock County History Center in downtown Luverne. They update the nutcracker count all the time, as she’s still adding to the collection!
The Rock County History Center is located at 312 E Main Street and is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
If you visit during the holidays, don’t miss their Nutcracker Scavenger Hunt. Local businesses and residents display over 130 nutcrackers around town and you have to hunt around to find them!
