It’s hard to believe, but New Years Eve is going to be here before we know it! I am notorious for not planning ahead with NYE, but not this year. This list is FULL of great NYE ideas for kids and families to ring out 2024 and welcome 2025!

Bayport

Bayport Public Library
Noon Year’s Eve

Free

Join the preschool set to countdown to noon!  There will be a sparkling apple juice toast and balloon drop at noon, and try to sing Auld Lang Syne!  There will also be a special New Year’s craft for kids.  Please pre-register for this event to help with planning. 

Bloomington

Bloomington Ice Garden
New Year’s Eve Open Skate
Tuesday, December 31st, 4:00-7:00pm
$8/person, includes skate rental

Lace up your skates and head over to Bloomington Ice Garden, 3600 West 98th Street, for a New Year’s Eve open skate. You can hit the ice on Tuesday, December 31, 4-7 p.m. All ages are welcome. Admission costs $8 if you preregister or pay at the door. This cost includes skate rental. Concessions will be open for purchase. Multiple sheets of ice will be open for skating with music. There will also be a kid-friendly New Year’s Eve countdown at 6:30 p.m.

Richardson Nature Center
Sledding and S’mores

Welcome the New Year with family, friends and the thrill of sledding. Warm up and roast a s’more next to a crackling fire. Bring your favorite sled and s’more supplies from home; we have limited sleds and s’mores available. This program takes place outdoors, please dress accordingly. No reservations needed, drop in anytime. Participants ages 11 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring family and friends together to celebrate the end of 2024 with a magical walk through the Arboretum’s Winter Lights display, family-friendly games and live music from Traveled Ground. Take your picture in a photo booth, add your hopes and dreams to the New Year Wish Tree and make a craft to bring home. Food and beverage options will be available for purchase from Rootstock.

A family-friendly party outside! Celebrate all things winter with candlelight ice skating, walking, hiking and snowshoeing. Hang out at the A-frame, warm up with crackling bonfires. Stay for the FAMOUS ball drop at 7:59 PM. Bring your own sled and ice skates. Snowshoe rental available. S’mores and hot cocoa provided.

Looking to ring in the new year with the whole family? The ECC is having a New Year’s Eve Dance Party on December 31st from 10 a.m. – noon. An event geared towards children ages 2-12, families are invited to celebrate the upcoming new year with music, festive decorations, a count down and ball drop in the playground, noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31. Two count down and ball drops are scheduled for the event – one at 1:30 p.m. and another at 3:30 p.m. Children will receive a 2025-themed take-home goodie bag.

Wrap up 2024 with one last s’more! Join Outdoor Recreation School instructors for a scenic snowshoe hike followed by a yummy treat. Learn how to put on and walk in snowshoes, explore the snowy trails on a guided walk, then gather around the fire to roast marshmallows and make a s’more. We will hike if no snow. Equipment and s’mores supplies provided. Reservations required by 24 hours prior.
