Ice Box Days in International Falls has been highlighted by national news as one of the best celebrations of winter. Join in the fun with frozen turkey bowling; the locally invented “smoosh” races; moonlight skiing in Voyageurs National Park; the infamous “Gizzard” runs and much more!
There is something about the fresh snow on the ground that just makes me want to be outside! But not without the proper winter gear, and maybe a fun festival or event to go to as well!
The 45th anniversary of Ice Box Days is happening in International Falls, about 4.5 hours from the Twin Cities, January 17th to the 25th. Highlighted by many national news stations, this is one of the best winter celebrations in Minnesota! Although I haven’t been, it seems like such a fun time for the whole family.
Did you know International Falls is so cold, companies come to test their car batteries there? Super random but true fact for you! So if you plan to go to Ice Box Days, pack your warmest winter gear.
The Ice Box Days schedule is full of interesting events, with many being completely free. The most famous events include frozen turkey bowling (it’s just as it sounds!), locally invented “smoosh” races (a variety of outdoor team-style games), moonlight skiing, toilet seat toss, “Gizzard” 5K or 10K and so much more!
Make sure to check out the full schedule of events and pick your favorites! You can view the entire celebration schedule on the Ice Box Days website.
