Surround yourself in the sight and smell of beautiful lilacs at the Lilac Labyrinth at Boomerville Lodge in Cold Spring.

One of my favorite parts of spring in Minnesota is the return of blooming lilacs. There’s just something about that sweet, nostalgic scent that stops me in my tracks. Whenever I spot a lilac bush on a walk, I have to pause and breathe it in. If you’re like me and can’t get enough of that delicious lilac scent, there’s a special place where you can be completely surrounded by it — the Lilac Labyrinth at Boomerville Lodge near Cold Spring.

This hidden gem is a private creation that’s open to the public during peak bloom. It’s located just outside of Cold Spring at Boomerville Lodge, a charming event venue nestled in the countryside. What makes this place truly special is its maze-like path of lilac bushes — over 3000 lilac plants arranged to form a walkable labyrinth.

Lilac season typically peaks in late May to early June, so you’ll want to plan your visit soon to catch them at their best. The labyrinth is now open for the 2025 season. It’s open weekdays noon to 8:30 pm, and weekends 9:30 am to 8:30 pm.
It’s free to visit, though donations are appreciated. Each year a worthy recipient in need is selected to receive 100% of the donations.

💡 Tips for visiting:
- Be respectful of the property and other visitors — this is a labor of love by the owners and meant to be a peaceful place for all.
- Bring your camera — this is a picture-perfect spot! Grab a family photo, a couples photo or just snap some shots of the beautiful blooms. Visit in the evening as dusk casts a soft glow overhead for pretty soft touch photos with a golden tone.
- If you’re visiting Cold Spring, you can’t leave town without a visit to Cold Spring Bakery. Everything they make is delicious, but I love their bars like the Almond Cheesecake Bars and the Caramel Candy Bars – both because they’re so good and they’re something more unique than you’ll find at many bakeries.
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful spring stroll or just want to take in the full lilac experience, the Lilac Labyrinth is a one-of-a-kind Minnesota destination. Add it to your spring bucket list — and don’t forget to stop and smell the lilacs!
