See performances of The Little Mermaid at the Ordway in St. Paul through December 29th!

A theatrical performance of The Little Mermaid at the Ordway theater with actors in vibrant costumes on stage. Ariel is at center in a flowing, blue-green dress appears swiming, surrounded by performers in aquatic-themed outfits. The lighting creates an underwater effect with shades of blue and green.

I think that most of us know about the tale of The Little Mermaid from one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and from the classic Disney animated film based on that story. The story takes on a whole new life when it is live on stage at the Ordway!

UPDATE: There are only a few days left to see the show and you can save 25% on all evening performances with *promo code COMM25!

Two women stand smiling in front of a large Christmas tree adorned with gold and silver ornaments at the Ordway in St. Paul, Minnesota. The scene is set in a lavish interior, with decorated railings and a carpeted floor. Other people are visible in the background.

I had a chance to see it with my sister last week and we loved it. I could give you a whole laundry list of why, but I’ll keep it short! The cast is great with top-notch singing and animated performances. I think Dana Orange as Sebastian and Liz McCartney as Ursula are standouts (which is maybe easy to do with those charismatic roles) and Leianna Weaver as Ariel and Christian Probst as Prince Eric fit their roles to a T with amazing singing voices.

The sets and costuming are GORGEOUS and really make the whole show magical. It’s beautiful to see the characters doing what actually looks like swimming above the stage.

A vibrant stage performance of The Little Mermaid at the Ordway with actors in colorful costumes resembling ocean creatures. The central figure, dressed as a sea king with a trident, is flanked by dancers in flowing green and orange outfits against a backdrop of aquatic-themed scenery.

And it’s a treat to see long-familiar songs come to life. To this point neither my sister or I have actually seen the entire Disney film, but we do know most of the songs and we thoroughly enjoyed the “top hits” like “Under the Sea,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World.” I personally loved the fact that there is a tap dance number in the show – we don’t see enough tap these days!

The image shows a theater auditorium at the Ordway filled with people. The stage backdrop displays "The Little Mermaid" in blue with an ornate, illuminated frame above it. The audience is seated, awaiting the start of the show.

On top of everything else, the Ordway is just a wonderful place to see a show, especially during the holidays. It’s so beautifully decorated and the mood is festive from the minute you enter the doors of the building. I would give the whole experience a glowing review.

I want to give a big thank you to the Ordway for hosting us!

If you’re looking for an extra-special holiday event to do with your family or friends, tickets are still available for The Little Mermaid, which runs at the Ordway through December 29th. Oh, those tickets would make a great holiday gift too!
