Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile The Musical is happening now through November 23rd at Children’s Theatre Company!
A really big perk of this writing job is getting to see amazing shows. I’ve seen a lot of the last few years of writing, so this is a big deal. to say: Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile The Musical at Children’s Theatre Company is one of my favorite musicals I’ve ever seen! It was extremely hilarious, the costumes were astonishing, the songs were catchy and I was actually sad when it was over. You have to see this one!
I should preface this– my son and I had never read the book, The Enormous Crocodile, before seeing the show. Of course we love Roald Dahl and are big fans but for whatever reason, we didn’t know the story of this one at all. It was fun to see something without knowing the story!
The five person cast brings this show to life! They are amazing and talented performers, and they utilize 26 different puppets throughout the show. The puppets range from the smallest (a mosquito at 4.7 inches long) to the Enormous Crocodile (18 FEET long)!!! It’s amazing to watch them switch to different characters throughout the show, several times my son mentioned he couldn’t believe the magic of how quickly they could become different animal puppets!
Roald Dahl’s The Enormous Crocodile The Musical is recommended for all ages and runs an hour with no intermission. Children’s Theatre Company does a great job of creating an Audience Guide for each show. This one is no exception! Find behind the scenes info on how the puppets were made, information about the story, cool crafts and experiments, and more!
There are many interactive moments that really bring The Enormous Crocodile to life! It does get loud and sometimes a bit scary (it is an Enormous Crocodile with over 60 teeth after all) so keep that in mind if your kiddos scare easily. The nice thing about the Cargill Stage at CTC is it’s bit smaller and easier to leave if needed and you can also watch the show from the lobby. Children’s Theatre Company is very understanding of children’s needs. There are also sensory-friendly show dates– you can check that out on their website!
