Take a stroll through the historical Village at Dakota City and enjoy Christmas of long ago.
It’s time for Christmas in the Village at Dakota City. Located inside the Dakota County Fairgrounds in Farmington.
This special holiday event takes place the first two weekends in December. This year the dates and hours are as follows:
December 3, 4, 10, & 11 from 3-8 pm
This has been an annual event for us for many years. For a couple years they changed it to a drive through event and last year it went back to the traditional event.
It’s fun to go through some of the buildings, an opportunity to step back in time and wander a bit through the little old fashioned town.
A Brand new addition this year, a model railroad display with holiday themed trains running around a festive winter scene in the village library.
You’ll also find a small store, post office, school, as well as a few other buildings. Volunteers are often dressed up in period clothing telling stories and answering questions. You can usually find music in the church, often local school or church groups having small concerts.
There’s a small admission fee that goes into the upkeep of the historical buildings. Cash or Credit Card accepted. $5 each, Children under the age of 5 are FREE.
**Also if you would like to volunteer, check here to see if there are opportunities still available. Events like this don’t happen unless people volunteer.
The buildings will be illuminated inside and out throughout the village. You can enjoy a horse drawn trolley ride around the beautifully decorated village.
Write your letter to Saint Nick at home and mail it at our post box outside the Post Office in the village. Be sure to include your self-addressed envelope with stamp so St Nick can send you a reply!
Listen to music at the church, typically various local groups take turns sharing their talent.
** In case of inclement weather, please watch this website or our Facebook page.
