Diary of Wimpy Kid is playing now through March 2nd at The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson! Keep reading for an exclusive ticket discount!
I know this blog is called Thrifty MINNESOTA, but sometimes we have to cross the border into Wisconsin for some amazing entertainment and deals! Diary of a Wimpy Kid is an illustrated children’s novel by Jeff Kinney, and it’s one of my son’s favorite books. When I heard it was happening over the border in Wisconsin, I knew we had to make the drive to check it out!
The Phipps Center for the Arts is right next to Minnesota in downtown Hudson (Hudson has a cute, Hallmark-style main street and they host the Hudson Hot Air Affair every year, which our readers love to attend!). The Phipps Center for the Arts been a nonprofit for over 4 decades, creating art and providing classes and community experiences.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid follows Greg Heffley’s journey into middle school. The audience is along for the journey as Greg records his life in his diary… I mean journal! The ups and downs of middle school popularity, the ever-changing friendship dynamics, relationships with family– so many big topics are featured in this musical. But they make it all so funny!
The songs are catchy (just wait til you hear The Cheese Touch and Animal Heart) and the characters are extremely relatable- didn’t we all kinda hate middle school? My son and I had such a good time seeing this musical and we’ve been listening to the soundtrack nonstop since last weekend!
Guess what? All the performers in Diary of a Wimpy Kid are high schoolers! You could have fooled us… the actors are extremely professional and very talented! My son and I were beyond impressed by the cast.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Performance
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is recommended for ages 5 and up. There are not any super scary moments, but the theatre and audience lights completely darken a few times throughout the show. The performance was 2 hours and 30 minutes with one intermission. Beverages and snacks can be purchased in the lounge and can be brought into the theatre.
Tickets are $21 for adults and $16 for youth and can be purchased on The Phipps Center for the Arts website. Diary of a Wimpy Kid runs now through March 2nd. Fridays at 7:00 p.m., Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m., and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
Exclusive Ticket Discount
The Phipps Center for the Arts sent us an exclusive discount code to share with our readers! Take $2 off any tickets purchased with the code “THRIFTYWIMP” at check out.
We truly enjoyed seeing this musical and would highly recommend it! We can’t wait to see what The Phipps Center for the Arts does next!
