Giraffes Can’t Dance is on stage now at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins through February 22nd, 2026!
Have you ever read the book Giraffes Can’t Dance to your kiddos? It’s been on our bookshelves since my youngest was a toddler! It’s one of my favorite books to read to my kids, the messages about never giving up, trying something new and believing in yourself are wonderful!
We had the opportunity to see the live stage version of Giraffes Can’t Dance at Stages Theatre Company and it was fantastic! Giraffes Can’t Dance is a collaboration between Stages Theatre Company and Threads Dance Project. It was fun to see many different styles of dance during this show! Be prepared to get a few of the songs stuck in your head!
The characters are animals– lions, giraffes, elephants, cranes, monkeys and more. The costumes were bright and fun along with amazing makeup that helped the actors embody the animals they were playing. It was fun to see the friendship between Gerald the Giraffe and his friend the cricket. Spoiler Alert: Gerald the giraffe does realize he could dance all along!
Giraffes Can’t Dance clocked in at one hour with no intermission on their mainstage theatre. It’s recommended for all ages. There were not any big sensory moments, but if you wanted to learn more about the show itself, I always recommend checking out the Audience Guide. Here’s where you will find more info about the show, activities for continued learning, discussion questions and so much more. Stages Theatre Company does a wonderful job creating their Audience Guides!
