Experience an Independence Day from the late 1890s at Historic Fort Snelling.
Get a head start on your 4th of July celebrations and plan to visit Fort Snelling a few days before the 4th of July holiday.
The Minnesota Historical Society is hosting Independence Day, 1898 at the Historic Fort Snelling in Saint Paul on Saturday, July 1st from 10 am – 4 pm.
This event allows you to take a step back in time, maybe even give your kids a history lesson too! While attending, experience an Independence Day from 1898 at the reconstructed stone fort. The festivities include a military parade, historical military music from the Historic Fort Snelling Fifes and Drums, and cannon salutes.
The programming will span the entire 23 acre site including the new prairie landscape, the Plank Museum & Visitor Center, as well as the reconstructed historic fort.

Historic Fort Snelling Admission Rates
This Fort Snelling 4th of July family event is included with regular site admission. In addition to the historic fort, admission grants you access to the Plank Museum & Visitor Center and grounds.
To purchase tickets online, head here. Tickets range from $0-$12. Adult tickets cost $12, Seniors (65+ years) and College Students cost $10, Children (5-17 years) cost $8, and Children (under 5 years) are FREE.
Please note, there are FREE walk-up admission tickets for Native Americans & Family, Veterans & Family, and Active Military & Family. If this describes you, get your tickets in-person at the Historic Fort Snelling and not in advance online to save!
