Minnesota Zoo’s brand new show: The Royal Credit Union Sea Lion Discovery Show is happening every day at 11am and 2pm!
We love visiting the Minnesota Zoo in all seasons! There’s so much to do inside and out, and we always have a blast during our visits. When I saw that a new show was launching in Discovery Bay- I knew we had to check it out!
The Royal Credit Union Sea Lion Discovery Show features one or more of the Zoo’s five resident California Sea Lions: Hudson, Flynn, Clyde, JoJo, and Theo. You get a chance to see the sea lions in action, doing jumps, waving hello, barking and more. The show was fast paced, featured exciting, lively music and only lasted 15 minutes. While I was bummed out it was over, it was the perfect length for my almost 3 year old daughter!
Free tickets are required to see this show, it’s very similar to the process when the dolphins were visiting the Zoo last year. Be sure to add your show tickets onto your order when your purchase your admission tickets, as the event was packed and “sold out” when we went!
And don’t worry about arriving early, the stadium seating space is filled top to bottom, so if you’d like closer seats for little kiddos, I’d recommend getting into line just a few minutes before showtime. I didn’t know this and we were a bit further back with no snacks (I left them in the stroller which are not allowed in the show) that was my mistake!
Besides the new sea lion show, there is so much else to do at Minnesota Zoo! The sun was shining so we explored part of the Treetop Trail. It was amazing to hear and see all the birds up in the trees this time of year! We also loved seeing the animals in the Grizzly Coast and spent some time getting warmed up in the Tropics Trail.
My daughter and I also discovered The Bee Hive, a small play area dedicated to kiddos ages 0-3. It wasn’t huge but it was nice play space for her without the big kids that were at the zoo for spring break. It’s located in-between the gift shop and the penguin area.
We can’t wait for the warmer weather to come and our next chance to see the sea lion show, perhaps when Spring Babies opens at this MN Zoo this spring? We are extremely lucky to have such an amazing zoo in the Twin Cities!
