Head to Rochester Art Center for Free Family Day each month!
The Mia isn’t the only art museum in Minnesota to host a Free Family Day – Rochester Art Center has one, too! The next event is coming up this Sunday, January 26 from 11 am – 4 pm.
Enjoy a day of creativity and fun with free activities for the family. Celebrate modern art and design with art activities and a special performance in the galleries.
Highlights include:
11 am – 4 pm | Art Activities in the Grand Lobby
Get hands-on with engaging art projects inspired by modern design. Perfect for all ages and skill levels!
1 pm | Artist Spotlight Tour: Maggie Panetta
How does a local contemporary artist respond to iconic modern design? Just ask Maggie Panetta, creator of the mini-golf hole inspired by Eileen Gray’s famous Bibendum chair. Her playful, clever design was selected by a jury to be featured in the exhibition Mini Golf & Chairs. At 1:00 on Free Family Day, Panetta will share details about her creative process and answer questions related to her work. Tour lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes ONE FREE attempt at a hole-in-one on Panetta’s course.
2 pm | Storytime Tour
Hosted by Rochester Public Library, Storytime Tours unlock the imagination by making connections between modern art and children’s literature. This program lasts approximately 30 minutes
3 pm | Dance Performance by HIJACK
Experience the unique choreography of HIJACK, the Minneapolis-based duo of Kristin Van Loon and Arwen Wilder. Known for their dynamic and thought-provoking dances, HIJACK’s performances embrace juxtaposition, inviting audiences to explore how unlikely elements can co-exist.
11 am – 4 pm | Mini Golf ($5 per play)
As a bonus experience, visitors of all ages are invited to play mini golf in the galleries featuring five artist-designed mini golf holes inspired by modern chairs. The cost to play one round is $5 per person and passes can be purchased at the front desk.
