We just learned about this cool program and had to share about it– sailing on Bde Maka Ska sounds like a perfect summer adventure! While we haven’t tried it yet ourselves, we hope to soon and we will update this post when we do!
Free Sailing Sunday is every third Sunday of the month from June to September from 12- 5pm (the last ride is at 4:30pm). Hosted by the Minneapolis Sailing Center, you head to the Boathouse (3010 E Bde Maka Ska Parkway, Minneapolis, MN 55408) to check in and fill out the Medical and Liability Waiver. Then you’ll get added to the list to sail after picking out your life jackets. Smaller groups will be matched up together (up to groups of 6) to ride the the 23-foot Pearson Ensign Keelboat with a professional captain.
You can have a chance to learn the basics of sailing during your trip or you’re welcome to sit back and relax. Reservations are not taken in advance so we would recommend getting there right at 12 to get your name on the list! (They do mention if the wait is longer than 30 minutes, they will take your phone number and text you when it'[s your turn). Kids are welcome to come with a parent and there will be child-sized life jackets available.
