Yes, egg prices have gone sky high (again)! But, I located one place in the Twin Cities where I was still able to grab a dozen for under $3 and change.

We go through a lot of eggs in our house. My husband usually likes to fry up an egg or two for his breakfast every morning, which is too much work and too many eggs for me!
In the past few months there has been a rash of the highly contagious avian influenza (aka bird flu) among chickens in the egg industry. This has created a shortage and egg prices have continued to rise as the problem worsens.
At this point, many places around the country are having serious egg shortages and don’t even have eggs on the shelves. While eggs are still available here in Minnesota, the prices are going WAY up!

As of this morning I started looking around and as I’m writing this the price for a dozen large eggs is $4.53 for Walmart’s Great Value brand and $4.59 for Target’s and Walmart’s Great Value Brand. Cub’s best price is for Eggland’s Best at $4.49, but their own Cub brand is $5.99, which is the same price as Hy-Vee’s won brand.
So, where did I find a deal? Kowalski’s! While other brands of eggs were very high, I found that they have a dozen of Eggland’s Best eggs for only $3.59! That beats everyone else by a lot. I did check online via Door Dash grocery delivery to confirm that other Kowalski locations also have Eggland’s Best at that same price. How long they will stay in stock is anyone’s guess. My guess is that it won’t be long!
If you’re searching for the lowest price eggs elsewhere, you might want to double-check the price for Eggland’s Best at that location. I think it may have something to do with it being a national brand, rather than a regional brand, but for today at least it seems to be the lowest price around.
In a more rural area you also may be able to buy directly from farmers. This is easier in the summer when there may be farmers markets and the like, but you can still ask your neighbors or check local Facebook groups for possible farm connections.
Add if you do end up buying eggs and need some butter to make a cake or to butter the toast you’ll eat along side your scrambled eggs, you’ll find a good deal at KwikTrip where they have their popular $2.99 Nature’s Touch Butter sale back through 1/27. (Limit 2) That’s worth putting some in the freezer for later.
