You may not think of a cemetery as a place to go to celebrate or have a party, but you’ll reconsider that thought if you ever visit Lakewood Cemetery! This large urban cemetery in Minneapolis adjoins both Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska.
Lakewood regularly hosts special events, many of which are free to attend. The next one is The Great Big Garden Party on Sunday, August 21 from 4 – 7 pm.
We’re telling you about it a little early so you can register for a free sandwich box if you so choose. You’ll need to sign up HERE by August 14 to receive the free boxed lunch at the event.
Besides the free sandwich and sides, there will be live music, art-inspired activities, carriage rides, and fun for the whole family. They’ll also be raffling off picnic blankets throughout the event and three grand-prize baskets at the end of the celebration.
Lakewood recommends that you bring a picnic blanket or something to sit on as well as water and/or a water bottle, a sun hat or umbrella for some shade, sunscreen, and bug spray. You are welcome to bring your own picnic!
