Military families can gain free museum admission throughout the U.S. thanks to the Blue Star Museums Initiative.

Active duty military personnel and their families can get free admission to hundreds of museums nationwide (in all 50 states) courtesy of the Blue Star Museums Initiative. This year’s program starts on Armed Forces Day (May 16) and continues through Labor Day (September 7).

- Minnesota Historical Society locations (Forest History Center, Historic Forestville, Historic Fort Snelling, James J. Hill House, Jeffers Petroglyphs, Mill City Museum, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post, Minnesota History Center, Oliver Kelley Farm, Sibley Historic Site, Snake River Fur Post, Split Rock Lighthouse)
- Duluth: Glensheen
- Minneapolis: Minneapolis Institute of Art
- Minneapolis: Walker Art Center
- St. Paul: Science Museum of Minnesota
- Wabasha: National Eagle Center

This is available to active duty military personnel and their families. However, many locations also offer free or discounted admission for veterans – you would just need to ask to see what is provided.

Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia participates in this program as well. The museum is in Northern Washington County.
