The Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival is a favorite tradition each year, and we’re excited that it’s back in action in 2026!

Look up and surround yourself with colorful kites flying over Lake Harriet in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 24th, 2025 from 12 pm – 4 pm during the 23rd Annual Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival.
Search the skies near the bandshell, on the north end of the lake for this outdoor, family friendly event. Fly a kite of your own, purchase a kite to fly, watch as many kites fill the sky, or participate in the many activities planned for you to enjoy.

NOTE: We’re still waiting on final details for 2026, but traditionally the following is what we have enjoyed with the kite festival!
The Kite Festival is a beautiful festival that fills the sky with colorful kites, offers winter activities for all, delicious local food trucks, music, free s’mores by the fire to warm up throughout the day and an interactive kids DJ.

This weekend is also an opportunity to see Art Shanty Projects since they’re also taking place beachside along Lake Harriet. Looking for more information about the Art Shanty Projects? We wrote up a post with everything you need to know here!
