Bring your kiddos to an art exhibit made just for them! Show & Tell: An Exhibition for Kids is open now through April 5th at the Walker Art Center.
My daughter and I had the opportunity to visit the new exhibit made specifically for kids at the Walker Art Center. We had a good time exploring somewhere I might not usually have taken my 3 year old!
The Walker Art Center is fun place, but I do feel a bit intimidated bringing my 3 year old there. The thought of her accidentally touching a larger-than-life piece of art makes me nervous! When I heard about Show & Tell: An Exhibition for Kids I knew it was the perfect time to get over my fear!
Show & Tell: An Exhibition for Kids is literally made for kids. There’s five exploratory zones—Play, Make, Find, Read, and Watch– and kids are literally encouraged to interact, touch, play with the art all around them. My daughter took a few minutes to warm up in the space, but after she got comfortable- we both had a great time.
There’s tons to explore and your kiddo is sure to find something they love! A big favorite of many kids at the exhibit was Cas Holman’s Critter Party (2024). It looks like a big tube sculpture that kids are invited to touch, climb on, and explore. My daughter was immediately drawn to Caroline Kent’s colorful abstractions that inspire kids to create their own collages to project in the gallery. I loved making my own creations too!
Then peek and listen to the portholes in the wall, filled with a trove of hidden surprises, from a miniature Spoonbridge and Cherry to a family of funky creatures! There’s also a gigantic puzzle you’re invited to work on (watch little ones that might put the pieces in their mouths though!), an area for reading, lots of art on the walls to see and an area to rest and take in films just for kids.
The only downside for me was that my daughter wanted to touch the art in the other exhibits after playing in this one! So we did leave after we spent about an hour here. But that was ok with me– kids under 18 are always FREE at the Walker Art Center. So after paying for my ticket and our underground and super accessible parking– this outing was really affordable and fun for both of us.
