Winter Flower Show Opening Weekend

Something I look forward to, the flower shows at the Como Park Conservatory.  I love all of them but the Winter Flower Show Opening Weekend is one of my favorites.  A chance to escape and pretend you escaped to a warm and tropical place.  The scent of fresh flowers and all the beautiful colors brighten my day!

This years show will feature: purple azaleas, jewel tones with dark red cyclamen, blue pansies, dark pink/maroon oriental lilies, veltheimia, various amaryllis.  The fun starts the weekend of January 12-13.  Don’t worry if you can’t make it on opening weekend, you can catch the Winter Flower Show through Sunday, March 10, 2019,

Holiday Flower Show Opening Weekend – Como Park Conservatory

This weekend is the Holiday Flower Show Opening Weekend at the Como Zoo and Conservatory. This year the show will feature mostly pink Poinsettias.  The best part about viewing the flowers, no admission fees, although donations are always appreciated.  Don’t miss out on enjoying the rest of what the zoo has to offer.  Como Zoo is one of the few completely free zoos left in the United States.

The Marjorie McNeely Conservatory has been a local St. Paul favorite for over 100 years, opening in 1915. While beautiful any time of year, the Holiday Flower Show makes a gorgeous setting to snap a few family pictures – the perfect holiday card setting!

The Holiday Flower Show tradition began in 1925 and continues to be the most anticipated and visited flower attraction at the Conservatory today. The Holiday show will feature mostly pink Poinsettias with traces of white throughout the garden.

Spring is in the Air | Floral Experience at the Galleria

We happened upon the Spring is in the Air | Floral Experience at the Galleria yesterday while out shopping.  With the recent snow it was so nice to walk into the Galleria and be greeted by the smell of spring.  The bright colorful floral displays were just what I needed to brighten my day.  I had hoped to get a few of my own photos to share but my phone was not cooperating.

The event is free as is parking, although keep in mind it does make the Galleria a little busier, although still very manageable to walk and shop.

See the Splendor of Asia at the 2013 Flower Show Macy’s Downtown Minneapolis – The Painted Garden

This winter seems like it is stretching on FOREVER!  Starting tomorrow, you can gain a little reprieve at the annual Macy’s Flower Show. This year’s theme, The Painted Garden: Gardens by Bachman’s, is an explosion of color celebrating Asian design, culture and beauty.

The focal piece of the show is an amazing 10 foot Elephant, which is covered with a floral blanket made of all natural elements including strawflowers, buttonflowers, coffee, lavender and more. The elephant is topped with a royal howdah (carriage) teeming with more colorful plants and flowers

Here are some fun facts about the show:

  • Approximately 24 truckloads of plants, flowers and soil comprise the Flower Show which total nearly 120 varieties and several thousand plants.
  • Construction begins in January and requires 3,000 hours of labor to complete with the support of more than 40 locally based electricians, florists, landscapers, artists, carpenters and visual specialists.
  • It takes 9 days to plant the full Flower Show display and 4 days to uninstall it.
  • More than 180 cubic yards of soil is moved into the Auditorium to create 4,000 square feet of landscape.
  • Each year, more than 65,000 people come to view the Flower Show during its 2 week run.
  • The average temperature inside the Auditorium during Flower Show is 65 degrees.
  • The soundtrack for the show is custom-made locally in the Twin Cities and is used at all 5 flower shows across the United States .

The show runs from Sunday, March 24 through Sunday, April 7, 2013, in the 8th Floor Auditorium of Macy’s Downtown Minneapolis store during store hours.  There is a wide range of other in-store events planned including cooking demos, art demonstrations, and more.  Find more information and the complete event schedule here.
