The annual Minneapolis Monarch Festival takes place at Lake Nokomis with free, family-friendly activities.

The Minneapolis Monarch Festival takes place Saturday, September 6th from 10 am – 4 pm. This 17th annual event will be at Lake Nokomis, with activities for all ages for a day full of fun.
The Festival celebrates the monarch butterfly’s amazing 2,300 mile migration from Minnesota to Mexico with music, food, dance, hands-on art, native plant sales.
Performing Artists on the Main Stage
- 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM- Mariachi Son de Morelos
- 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM- Kapulli Ketzalcoatlicue
- 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM- Ballet Folklorico Mexico Azteca
- 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM – Tropical Zone Orchestra

Hands on Art with local Artists
- Mia (Minneapolis Institute of Arts)
- Screen printing with Sarah Nassif
- Monarch shields with Lynette LaRue
- Lino-block printing with She’s Bilingue Art
- Sculptures and piñata with Curiosity Studio

There are also plenty of opportunities to get up close with monarch butterflies, learn about their habitats, and what you can do to make a difference.
