Step back in time and enjoy some nature-based storytime with Stories from the Porch at Historic Eidem Farm!

Anyone else feel like they’re trying to squeeze the last few drops out of summertime before school starts? Yes, you can always go to the pool, but sometimes you need a change of pace and just need to step back to a slower time.
Historic Eidem Farm in Brooklyn Park is a living history site that highlights life on the farm during the 1905-1920 era. When you visit, you’ll experience farm life and explore nature on their 19-acre site.

This summer, they’re hosting Stories from the Porch each Tuesday at 11 am. Come for the reading of children’s stories (usually with a farm/nature theme) followed by playtime in the farm yard.
When my family visited, there were chairs and large blankets set out at the porch where people could sit, but you can also bring your own and even pack a picnic lunch to enjoy.

Afterward, we explored the farm for a little while. We fed the goats in the barn, clucked at the chickens, colored some pictures in the schoolhouse, and even pumped water from the well to water the flowers. My 4-year-old’s favorite part was definitely riding on the toy tractors.
The program runs Tuesdays through August 29, so you have a few more weeks to attend storytime this summer. I’m hopeful they will continue it in future summers as they have in years past!

If you can’t make it on Tuesdays, you can still visit Historic Eidem Farm during their Open Gate hours that run through October 3:
- Mondays and Wednesdays – 10 am to 4 pm
- Tuesdays and Thursdays – 10 am to 7 pm
- Saturdays – 10 am to 3 pm

Historic Eidem Farm also hosts special events throughout the year. The farm is located at 4345 101st Ave N in Brooklyn Park.
