The Carp Who Would Not Quit and Other Animal Stories is running now through February 18th at Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis.
My son and I had the opportunity to attend the opening night of The Carp Who Would Not Quit and Other Animal Stories at Children’s Theatre Company, and we were in for a real treat!
The Carp Who Would Not Quit and Other Animal Stories shares the stories of multiple Japanese animal folklore tales, where they are used to teach lessons in a fun and interactive way. It’s a very engaging show, with the performers encouraging audience participation while teaching basic Japanese words.
The three performers (Serina Dunham, Mattea Mazzella, Hermenigildo Tesoro, Jr. from Honolulu Theatre for Youth Ensemble) play music, utilize puppetry and innovative props throughout the 50 minute show. Ideally for ages 2-7, this show is a great way to learn something new, all while escaping the winter cold outside!
As a parent, I know we will always enjoy the performances at Children’s Theatre Company. They offer wonderful resources to parents on their website via an Audience Guide. This document is a great guide to the performance. It typically contains a synopsis, content advisories, behind the scenes details, further learning ideas and more.
I appreciate this information, as I can prep my kiddos about the performance ahead of time, figure out which shows would be best for each of my kids based on age and sensory needs. We are also given plenty of educational ideas to keep talking about the show afterward! This time, my son and I are excited to read the recommended books and watch the lion dance videos linked in The Carp Who Would Not Quit and Other Animal Stories Audience Guide.
The Carp Who Would Not Quit and Other Animal Stories is running now through February 18th. Tickets start at $15 and are available at the Children’s Theatre Company website. Some dates are already selling out–don’t miss your chance to see this fun and engaging show!
